I live in a western province and own rentals in an eastern province.

I was looking at buying some farmland in one of the western provinces as an investment.

Looking at investing out of province where prices are much cheaper and rent to Purchase price makes sense!

In Canada, some of the provinces (and areas) have additional taxes associated with purchasing a home. 

If you are planning to rent , think twice, most Canadian provinces are very biased toward tenant, you will be surprised how socialist are some rental laws are in country considered to be capitalist.

You will not find services selling lists in Canada as you do in the U.S.A. as that would contravene privacy legislation.In some provinces you can easily lookup - sometimes for free - the owner on title.  

The province has added around 70,000 jobs in the past year, probably around 50,000 of those would be in the metro area, and this is a city that builds around 20,000 units a year.

I just read Creating Wealth Through Self Storage by Mark Helm and it was a great introduction to self storage units.

@Brandon TurnerI know you are nationally focussed, but here to your north, in most (though off the top of my heard, I cannot swear all ... some may use notaries as well) provinces and territories a lawyer performs both tasks (title search and close).

@Ian Walsh  my only heart burn with wholesaling as a whole is its the province of mainly total beginners that waste an inordinate amount of time..
