If the cabinets are in good shape under the grime, give them a really good cleaning and then have the doors sprayed the colour of your choice to freshen them up and add new hardware.

Once excavated, new drain tile can be installed, a water-proof membrane can be installed against the wall, and the open space can be back-filled with stone - that's how they build it new today (though sometimes they use a spray sealer instead of a membrane).
