At this point you have both lines disconnected so it's relatively easy to unscrew the connector nuts at the valve and remove the fixture (some nuts will slip over the compression lines, others you have to take the line loose from the fixture first) and put a new one in.

It seems the contractor that went out there had also carried out a temporary fix by forcing the downstairs dampers opened permanently by disconnecting the wires that control it but eventually would need replacing.
