Best to partner with a builder who has experience in JC and can navigate the permit/zoning process with the town plus do the renovation work needed.

Does anyone know any reasonably priced Builders they'd recommend?

The smart ones will defer to the builder when it comes to structural issues.

Apparently they can just break contracts without recourse if builders / owners are well connected and I even engaged a lawyer.  

If it can't cover overhead expenses and make a reasonable profit, it might not even be in business long enough to finish your project.The National Association of Home Builders published a report a few years ago that stated that their "best" remodeling contractors averaged something under 4% net profit.

Back in the GFC it was builders and sfr that was hammered today its the MF office and syndications that are hammered and us builder/developers of SFRs are doing pretty darn well.. 

Google doesn't see the point of sending their visitors to your website, which will drop 86% of visitors in the first 15 seconds.Bottom line1) Squarespace, Wix, GoDaddy and other website builders are very slow.

I think it will be very challenging to find a builder who will teach you to build.
