Be thankful you have a section 8 tenant who is coming to you first with this issue and trying to get it rectified through the proper channels.

There are various other items that may come up such as: Proper firewall suppression, adequate entrances/exits for fire safety, stair safety, size of kitchen appliances, etc... for my specific example. 

STR's, if done right, are viable long term investments meant to cash flow at a reasonable enough level to properly maintain and improve them. 

You have to properly vet and perform thorough due diligence (which I didn't do a couple years ago when I first jumped in).

You should also check to ensure they have Errors & Omissions insurance, Fidelity Bond coverage, and a Financial Institution Blanket Bond.Some are more consultative and advisory and provide guidance, while others are just processors. 

I own 12-doors in Detroit proper.
