Penalties for receiving Homestead Deductions on rental properties?

I received a letter from the Marion County Auditor, Indianapolis, IN, stating that I've been receiving Homestead Deductions on some of my rental properties for over 3yrs, and now they are going to invoice me for the past three years, plus interest, and penalties.

P.s. love BP and it’s resources The best way to find information about the property and the owner is doing a public records search which you can do via the counties auditor website and conducting a property search, you can also contact other government entities in your counties and ask about information of the property.

@Darius Ogloza you are absolutely right my friend...this is an important issue...it's difficult to fully analyze taxes, but most county auditor sites are "open" and have great data we can use in aggregate...how are you running your analysis and what have you discovered so far?
