At the same time, vagrants suffering from drug and alcohol abuse are for the first time pitching tents on our street.We feel trapped between falling rents and falling home prices, rent control, and bad city policies on crime and homelessness.

We do have very high levels of alcohol and drug abuse, which lead to a lot of the vagrancy issues Keenan was talking about.

The cost to move a business as well as to file for Alcoholic Beverage Control's license and permitting process will take time and cost them money.  

I have a tenant who is an alcoholic.

Plus people need to get away and relax more when times are bad, that's why alcohol sales always go way up during tough times.....

Note to self, add alcohol and cigarettes to the list.....:)

Real estate wasn't even a thing on my mind.. just girls and alcohol.

While shutting down some businesses and social distancing has no doubt reduced transmission, slowed the progression, and reduced the number of lives lost, the second and third order effects of all the shutdowns and isolation is taking many more lives from things such as suicide, drug overdose, alcohol abuse, delayed testing/treatment for other life-threatening conditions etc.
