I can see situations where expenses rise faster than that, and landlords are left to subsidize our tenants.To address your other concern, I personally have stopped buying in NY and I'm actively looking in the southeast where the laws are more fair and reasonable.

I would think markets to the south & southeast of Orlando (Lakeland, Avon Park, Vero, Port St Lucie) might have some affordable options as well if you’re selective.

I thought that with all that I could find success in a small rental in southeast Raleigh.

Hadn’t considered favelas but I have been intrigued by slum areas in other parts of the world.I feel Southeast Asia is pretty restrictive unless you marry a local.
