I am a landlord in MA and recently had tenants move out and cause damages to my property (soot all over the walls + holes which required extensive cleaning, patching and re-painting).I did have a security deposit, but unfortunately, I was not aware of the very specific security deposit laws in MA.

I am not sure why my situation ran into such a rabbit hole, but I found the answer. 21st Mortgage (for some states) will cut you a check for the sales tax that you pay to the Department of Revenue.

@Wayne Brooks I did not understand the technical details of what he says the problem is, so I won't try to say things that are probably wrong :) He said there's a hole in the line, but that he still isn't able to see everything and it could still be much worse.I completely understand that this can happen.
