If they are old, are they lead cast?

I am convincing her that I am educating myself, I plan to have experienced people around me, and I let her know that all the pod casts, YouTube videos and books talk about the mistakes people have made and how to avoid them. 

EDIT:  Let me add that I also look at the age of the property, trying to stay with properties built in the late 70s or later to avoid issues with lead base paint and cast iron plumbing.  

If it's cast iron drains then I'd check for leaks.

If not, and if the townhome was built in 2006, it's not like the line is decades old cast iron, this sounds like a waste of money. 

Stone foundations, cast iron sewer main stacks, & outdated electrical systems (knob & tube) are a few things to watch for.

I'm hoping I can get some recommendations on good readings or pod casts on the two topics: (I am more concentrating on the BRRRR method) I'm having a hard time understanding the benefits between buying a house cash, or using a loan/mortgage.
