I was going to give the delivery guy $40 to move (rental is very close, only several stop signs away), but BestBuy told me they have contracts w/ the delivery people that prohibits them from doing such a thing.A local mover wants to charge $260, which seems a lot for such a short move.Has anyone been able to do what I want to achieve?

If they move in their own appliances and ding the walls, unfortunately that’s on them (or the appliance delivery people/movers)The places I rent are in an area that people would expect W/D.

We don't allow mail delivery at our MTR and this is mentioned in the lease. 

Use a postal permit, and print a delivery point bar-code when you are addressing.

As a former labor and delivery nurse I can vouch for your brother's heroism-- an emergency delivery is stressful for mom and baby.
