How to get cheaper postage?

I'm switching from postcards to letters, and now postage is really starting to add up. I just looked at a piece of mail that came to me, and it appears it was run through a pitney bowes machine of some sort. It was sent for 12 cents.

How can I get deals like this?

The Post Office is changing their postal presort requirements Nov 23rd which will make it more difficult for you to receive postal discounts. Their description of "bulk" or "3rd class mail" was grouped into a more PC "Standard Mail Class" years ago. Rates are still pretty descent. for 5-digit automation rates. >125 pieces of mail into the same Zip-Code $.218 per piece. You will need to have your list presorted every 95 days. Use a postal permit, and print a delivery point bar-code when you are addressing. This all sounds daunting but it is one of those things once you learn it it is very easy. There are better rates available but they do take more work to achive.
Here are the things you want to look at 1) Quanity - how many pieces of mail per drop 2) Frequency - how often are you going to mail to the same group 3) Mail piece - you can mail 6" x 11.5" piece for the same price as a #10 envelope.

I've always found a oversized post card or self mailer produces the best. These type of mail pieces stick up above the #10 envelope and are picked up read first when the prospect has the longest attention span for that task. Granted they are reading/ sorting their mail over a trash can but you will always get read first. I work with Realtors and developers on their marketing everyday.
Good Luck
Patrick
