I've also had guests buy their own TP and trash bags and leave the extra.As for toiletries, I leave the traditional "Starter Set" of shampoo, a little bar soap, conditioner, and lotion  (the tiny hotel bottles).

The smell has not dissipated, pointing toward a bigger problem than one shampooing can fix, and because the living room carpet was still full of indents from the previous furniture it is unlikely that the carpets were properly shampooed.

Also, what others have said, the personal touches on what is in your place (e.g. providing all the essentials instead of having people buy TP, coffee, shampoo, etc.) and the quality of those items (no tattered towels, stained sheets, etc.).
