Cleveland, OH...the country's best kept secret.

  • Cheap cost of living (housing, entertainment, etc)
  • Incredible Park System that runs throughout entire Northeast Ohio (Metroparks)
  • Professional Sports (Browns, Indians, Cavs, Hockey, etc.)
  • Playhouse Square (Biggest theater district in the USA outside of NYC)
  • Rich history (steel, industry, Rockefellers, etc.)
  • Museums (Rock and Roll HoF, Art, etc.)
  • Prestigious Universities (Case Western Reserve)
  • Incredible Food due to multi-ethnic old-world population (Slavic, Arabic, African American, Latino, etc.)
  • Lake Erie (and everything that comes with it, boating, beaches, etc.)
  • Excellent Suburban school systems (I am a produkt of deeze skoolz)
  • City Pride...you don't get it unless you're from here

The worst part about Cleveland is the weather.

It's winter for 5.5 months out of the year. But guess what...everything is a short flight away!

Actually...Wait...umm....don't move here it sucks...

 The pretentious "e" works every time! Stop falling for the pretentious e people!

@Sean Lunny

Thanks for your input Sean. Adding cashflow to the house fund is exactly what I'm trying to show my wife. I've given this too much thought, to be quite honest haha. Best of luck to you :)

@Stephanie P.

You are absolutely correct. I've done a lot of research and am leaning towards a HomePossible loan via Freddie Mac. I'll have to get you on a call with my wife to convince her lol. Thanks for your input!

I drove through East Cleveland on Sunday.

I would pay for the author's rent to just live in that area, let alone manage/own a rental in that area. I'm sure their opinion would be slightly skewed after that.

Sadly there are people who prey on low income but that can be said for the poor as well . Many times I’ve seen panhandlers preying on middle class to buy booze and drugs while smoking a cigarette talking on a $900 phone . There is no shortage of people being taken advantage (or taking advantage )of in every income bracket and race.

Well said, it absolutely goes both ways.

We all know that there are "professional tenants" as well as "professional bust-outs" as we called them in the car business. These are people that know how to game the system in every way possible.

My wife and I are both 1st gen Americans from Slavic immigrant parents and grandparents. Our families accomplished so much in just being in this country for 35+ years with no English, money, etc.

I can't understand how people who are born in the states, speak English, went to school here, who choose to live their lives like this.

Oh well. I was raised to have more pride than that.

Hi All,

My wife and I are in a position where we are currently renting for a low monthly amount, allowing us to put away a good chunk of change into our "House Fund".

We are in a position where we can buy our forever home. However, I would personally like to house hack a duplex while building up the house fund even more to strike on a forever home a year or 2 while living in the duplex.

If you were me, what would you do or what have you actually done, and would you do it again?

Right now we don't have any kids, but we would like to have children soon.

Your thoughts?

Thanks!
