Hello, I am trying to learn as much as I can about short term rentals. I am looking to buy my first STR in the Austin area and am looking for the best resources about getting starting, analyzing properties for this strategy, and how to maximize my profits. Any articles, videos, podcasts, blogs or other resources on the topic would be much appreciated.

I understand worrying about getting into analysis paralysis and just trying to save forever, I also live in Austin and have been looking at the market and agree its on fire and finding deals may be difficult. I recommend starting to talk to an agent in the Austin area find someone who does deals in the situation you're in including being out of state investor and pushing as hard as you can to get a into the market now. Make all your numbers conservative and plan accordingly. As you go down the road as if you're going to move you will learn way more than you could without working on getting a property and there are so many chances and safety checks in place if you do your due diligence you will know when you find a deal that makes since for your situation and at that time make the jump.

Quote from @Jordan Moorhead:

@Zander Deckinga have you gotten started househacking here yet? It's a great way to accumulate rental properties and reduce your expenses! It's also a great way to buy rentals for very low down payments.

Absolutely, I plan on using house hacking to get started building this portfolio. Planning to buy my first unit this year and move to a new house hack every year after as my main way of building up multiple properties.

Hello BP, I am a 19 year old in the Austin, TX area. I have been interested in real estate and reaching FIRE for a few years now. My first focus after graduating High School was to find a way to quickly increase my income in a 9-5 to fund my real estate investing; I have recently gotten to a comfortable spot with my 9-5 as a bar tender. I love my current job and don't look to actually retire at any point but still love the idea of being able to choose a job based on how much I enjoy it because I have a real estate portfolio funding my life style.

I am currently looking at finding leads. I have decided to build a portfolio of rental properties to start with and am looking in the Austin area for those deals.

I've loved the resources I have seen from BP and can't wait to dive into the community and vast numbers of resources available here.
