Hi Krystal,I'm a relatively new investor from North Wilmington, DE. Welcome to Bigger Pockets! You will be amazed what you can learn and apply to New Castle...which holds a ton of opportunity. I recommend listening to the podcasts and participating in the forums. You can set BP to notify you when certain key words are used...that's how I saw your post.

Also, not sure if you've done so yet, but stop by a DELREIA meeting. First one is free and will introduce you to local investor community. Looking forward to seeing your contribution.

Post: Shaun McCloskey 1-day Short Sales seminar?

My local REI is offering a Saturday 1-day seminar on short sales led by Shaun McCloskey for $40. I was wondering if anyone else has attended one in the past and if so, was it worth the time and registration fee? I'm assuming there will be some sort of upsell, but maybe there are some tidbits in between that are worth it.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Amber,

I was hoping to go to my first DIG meeting tonight as well if I'm able to get away from work. Could you tell me if you had to pre-register or are you just showing up? Thanks and maybe I'll see you there.

Hi @Cliff Jackson ...I'm also a new member from down the road in Wilmington DE but work in Malvern and used to live in Collegeville. Like you I'm in knowledge acquisition and networking mode. If you are ever down here or want to swap notes vie email/phone, I'm open to it.

Not sure if you are aware, but there is an REI group in your area called DIG that I think I'll be attending soon. Don't know much about it or whether it's worth it, but it is in your back yard so maybe check it out.

Thank you everyone for sharing your experience and opinion. You've all brought up great points and touched on my motivation for posing the question.

I get that priority should be given to making offers and for that, I don't think name is that important. However, in my situation, I don't have the resources to start acquiring properties, so I'm probably going to kick things off by focusing on wholesaling. That way, I can continue to learn the business, build my network, and still make some money. I'd like to start rehabbing as soon as possible since that is my passion, but until I make the connections with private lenders or potential 50/50 partners, I won't be able to start there.

So, when you consider wholesaling, I think to key to success will be effective marketing to find the deals and that's when I think the name could be very importent. Maybe not on bandit signs, but for business cards, mailers, etc I'd think a more professional presentation would help a potential seller take that first step than the alternative. I know when I see those bandit signs, my gut reaction is "shady" , risky, and lacking credibility. However, it seems that the name can be a tool to help establish credibility that ultimately helps convince someone to take that first step and call.

Hopefully, this doesn't come across as too off-base.

Hey everyone...I hope this finds you well.

I'm currently trying to come up with a name for my company. On the one hand, I want it to be classy and professional so something like XYZ HOMES or XYZ INVESTMENTS. On the other hand, a creative name that also helps explain the services you provide may help with marketing so something like XYZ PROPERTY SOLUTIONS or CASH FOR HOMES.

Is one option proven to be better than the other? What are your thoughts on these I've presented? My preference is XYZ PROPERTY SOLUTIONS, but I don't know.

What did you name your company and why?

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

@Rafael Floresta , I'm sorry...not quite there yet to have an opinion.just perusing the various sites, I think there are numerous deals to be had around the Wilmington area. I'm mostly starting my focus on the North Wilmington/Brandywine/Claymont area heading into West Chester PA. I'll let you know if/when I learn more...esp about "historic Wilmington."

Hello everyone...I hope this finds you well. I'm currently an operational strategist for a large financial services company in SE PA and am planning to begin investing in real estate in the near future.

I'm a big fan of "transformation" having extensively renovated my own homes over the years. Often times, you'll find me somewhere in my current home "visualizing" my next project. Combine that with my life-long interest in real estate (I just find it fascinating for some reason) and my desire to be my own boss and become "financially free"...well, the more I learn about it, the more this all just resonates. It just makes sense...

Anyway, I'm in knowledge acquisition and networking mode now. I came across Bigger Pockets a few nights ago and have been blown away by its resources, advice, and community. I feel fortunate to have discovered this resource so early in my research.

Since I'm going to start while maintaining a full-time job, I'm thinking wholesaling is the way to go to jump in, continue to learn the business, create a market presence, and build a local network. I'd like to start the occasional rehab as soon as I can since I think that it will be/is my passion. Once established, I'd like to transition to buy-and-hold and build up a portfolio that will support my family's lifestyle.

I'm really looking forward to interacting with all of you on the site and I'm very excited to become a part of this community.

Cheers!
