Quote from @Keila Pritchard:

Hello,

My wife and I are military and looking to move to Anchorage next. Before we get up there, we know we'd like to buy property in Alaska regardless of where we PCS. I am inclined to buy a multi-family in Eagle River but there are not many available now. I'm really open to finding a property in Anchorage but the crime-rate and keeping tenants. Open to anyone's experience or advice on other places to buy. Excited to jump in with the BP community in Alaska!

 Hey Keila,

Owning both multi-family property in both Eagle River and Anchorage, along with being a real estate agent and helping clients buy in both areas, I can say that there are advantages and disadvantages to both.

I would say Eagle River has great room for appreciation and rent growth, but the barrier to entry is high and it is ultra competitive. There are areas of Anchorage that have similar rent growth and appreciation that are a little less competitive.

Hope this helps!

Hey Luke,

I do STRs in Anchorage as well. Does great in the summer, during peak tourist season, but winters are tougher. Like @Jamie Rose said, contractors are more readily available in Anchorage and Wasilla where most of the population is.

Very nice! Congrats on your 24 doors! Are the all in 1 building? or multiple different buildings? Also if you're will to answer, which parts of Anchorage?

Not one building, technically 6 different buildings. 5 of those buildings are on one street next to each other.

Hey sir,

Things are awesome! In the last 2 years I've personally picked up 24 doors and am still looking for more to add to my portfolio! Rents have climbed pretty substantially lately and with the abundance of STR's in our market, the rents on Long term rentals are still climbing.

Hope all is well with you!

Quote from @Todd Link:

Hello all,

My name is Todd Link, I'm currently stationed in Florida but my wife and I are moving to JBER in Anchorage in March. We're looking to buy a home to live in while stationed there, and then keep as a STR when we leave. Any STR owners with good advice out there willing to chat a bit? And does anybody have solid recommendations for real estate agents familiar with the STR market in and around Anchorage? Thank you!

 Hey @Todd Link,

Personally have several STRs that we do in Anchorage! We also have a meetup in that myself and @Jamie Rose host whenever you guys come up here!
