New here to BP and I started out as one of those "I'll get in and make money within a month!" but my optimism quickly turned to realism as I discovered just how much I didn't know.

So, as I learn to take it slow and gain my knowledge, I'm interested in what skills it takes be successful at this. Not just general personality skills, like determination, motivation, networking, etc. But practical skills, like accounting, math, finance, law, construction, etc.

And if one doesn't have these skills, how would they go about acquiring them, or partnering with those who do have them?

And knowing now what you didn't know then, what would you do differently?

Would you read and research more before jumping in? Or just the opposite? Would you save up more capital first before making a first time investment?

I'm interested in starting out bird dogging, possibly wholesaling and syndication, while building up my war chest to start investing in single family and multifamily.

@Al Williamson thanks Al! When's the next meet up?

@Sergey Tkachev Would be great to meet up, what's your favorite coffee place in Sac? There are a lot of good ones. BTW how do I send a private message?

@Favia Vitan Thanks for the welcome, nice to meet ya.

@Amy Wolf @Dmitriy Fomichenko

Pleasure to meet both of you. Will reach out to you individually. :)

@Sergey Tkachev Yes, bird dogging! Cool pic. May I ask how you got started and what your specialties are?

Hey there fellow CRE enthusiasts, coming at you from warm (and dry!) NorCal. I'm a 32 year old guy born and raised right here in the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento valley. Lived in SF for 11 years and currently residing in Sacramento, but do a lot of traveling back and forth.

Right now I am an independently contracted field inspector for commercial real estate services. It's a cool job in that I get to travel around, meet new people, and come across different types of properties. Some of my clients over the years have influenced me to get into investing and scouting. I think scouting would be a good place to start, since I don't have much to my name yet.

I've met with a few investors so far in Sacramento to discuss a game plan and how to proceed.

I'm looking to connect with others who are scouts or started out as scouting that could pave the path a little bit so I know where I'm stepping. Want my boots to stay as clean as possible, haha.

A little about me: I have a Media Studies & Communications degree. I have experience in online marketing. I enjoy video production and am taking classes to brush up on these skills (skills that I'm sure could benefit my own real estate career). I enjoy triathlons and anything that I can see steady progress leading to big gains and success. Love cooking, going for walks with my dog, living the single life, traveling, a good dry red wine, and face massages. Also love reading and learning- currently reading "Crush It!" by Gary Vaynerchuk.
