@Jay Hinrichs you mentioned that the data that @Greg Johns is researching is easily attainable. Do you mind sharing what resources you use?  I am also looking for rental property and want to do some socio economic # crunching prior to pulling the trigger.

Welcome to BP Sean.  Considering that you are coming from San Diego you should not experience the same amount of sticker shock I had when moving here from the southeast.

BP,

I am seeking an investor friendly knowledgeable Chicago real estate agent(preferably an investor themselves).  It is important that the agent is familiar with large portions of the city(Woodlawn up to Rogers Park and as far west as Humbolt park or the Eastern Edge of East Garfield Park).

Please reply or inbox me if you have any suggestions.

Thanks!

I have definitely seen them also.  Glad I found BP first.

I am sorry to hear you don't have that much needed support at home.  Does your  husband provide an explanation of why he doesn't believe in real estate?

@robertsigrist I lived in Atlanta for about 10 years and have been in Chicago for 2.  Atlanta is a great city but it but is extremely spread out.  I think you have to decide whether you want to be closer to the city(ITP/In The Perimeter) or the suburbsOTP(Out The Perimeter).  If you want to be ITP and within 25min of the airport Airport I suggest Grant Park, Inman Park, Poncey Highland, Kirkwood, Candler Park.  If you are willing to drive 35minutes then I highly recommend the City of Decatur.  Please note that I said the CITY of Decatur and not just Decatur.

OTP is going to be tough for me to make suggestions that are within 25 minutes of the airport.  Good luck.  I happy to be in Atlanta now and you are going to love the weather.

John-Paul Dydo I drove through Berwyn today. It was a little late so I wasn't able to get a true feel for the neighborhood. There were definitely plenty of mf's where I drove and you can see the potential for more comercial development along the major corridors of Roosevelt and Cermak. The good thing is that I didn't see any loitering, which my first key indicator of a questionable neighborhood.

Bartek,

How did you find this property?  I am researching multi units in the Chicago area also and am having a hard time finding what will meet my buy criteria(which is currently in development).   Also, what neighborhood is the property in?
