I'm a guy in my early twenties. Just started an opportunity fund. Hoping to use it to buy a multifamily property, or a single-family if the numbers make sense. I plan on house hacking that situation. I am currently renting a 3 bedroom house with two roommates and will be moving out of here in 12-14 months back to the Kansas City area. Not too sure of my direction after that. I have not decided on a niche. Yet I could see myself acquiring more multi-family properties. For those of you that had similar beginnings, what do you wish you had done differently? What worked out and what decisions were you glad you made? What advice would you give someone in my situation? Thanks for all the free knowledge! Keep Hammering

Welcome, @Tristan J.! So glad you've discovered Bigger Pockets early in your real estate investing journey...and it looks like you've already made some good contacts here from your area....

A few tips that may be helpful to you here on the BP website:

You can set up keyword alerts so anytime someone posts about KC, Enterprise, or any of the specific markets you're evaluating, you'll be notified. That could be a great way to find and stay engaged with local investors, realtors and opportunities. http://www.biggerpockets.com/alerts

You can also search for other investors or brokers in your market and follow their journey on Bigger Pockets here: https://www.biggerpockets.com/search/users

And of course, be sure to subscribe to the podcast - so much great info there and always full of inspiration. Guaranteed to be time well spent...

Best of luck to you and I look forward to following your success on BP!

 Thanks for the great information!

Thanks for the response Austin. I'm very pleased with the platform here as well as the podcast. Perfect learning infrastructure for young guys like us. I see you're interested in Kansas City. Maybe we will meet sometime in the future!

I haven't yet considered investing there. I am planning on moving in with two other guys down there in January. I will be there for 18 - 24 months. Do you think instead of renting, this would be a good market to invest in a property?

@Anjlia Holiday Thanks for reaching out. Haven't decided what type of investing is going to be best for me. I'm thinking when I get back from flight school of purchasing a duplex or another 2-4 unit multifamily property. Live in one of the units while learning more and preparing to acquire another property.

Hey guys. I graduated from college in May with a degree in psychology and also commissioned as an officer in the Kansas Army National Guard. I am currently in the Aeromedical Evacuation Officer pipeline. This means I will be moving to Enterprise, Alabama in January 2019 for about 18 months for flight school. However, after I am finished I will move back to the Kansas City area and work part time for the military. I love flying. I currently have a private pilot fixed-wing license (airplanes) that I completed this past summer. As well, the training I will receive down in Alabama will result in me obtaining a rotary license (helicopter). I have aspirations of flying for the airlines someday, but I also have aspirations of developing a RE portfolio that produces around 10k a month so I can have a FI lifestyle and live out some of my other dreams. For the last several months I have been listening to the BP podcast, have read a couple investing books, and ultimately I am trying to absorb as much information as possible. My mind is open to all opportunities at this point. I am just trying to educate myself as much as possible so when a good opportunity arrises, I can pull the trigger and feel confident. If there are any KC area folks reading this, feel free/please reach out to me. I'm eager to learn and talk to others that are investing in my neck of the woods.
