Willingness to spend. Right now we are working on building a cash reserve and maxing out retirement contributions since it will have a longer time to grow now as opposed to contributing later in life.

Aside from the retirement fund goals, we are making some home improvements, including adding an in-law suite with a private entrance that we rent our either long term or airBnB.

We want to start our real estate journey from a position of financial strength.

I am considering getting my real estate license in Charlotte, NC. Is there any advantage (networking, funnel to brokerages, etc.) to taking the class with a school that only does real estate such as Superior? The other option is to take the licensing class at CPCC, which is half the price and 5 minutes from my house.

@Meg K. All of those prices sound extremely reasonable. Based on the prices guessing he works for himself and might carry insurance.

Check out RiteRug on Distribution. They might be by appointment only but they have the best selection I’ve seen.

My tile installers prices have been creeping up over the last year. He's charging over $6 for demo and $6 for install labor only. Does anyone have a contact for a tile installer that has Liability and workman's comp insurance?

While I'm here if anyone knows of an affordable punch out contractor that would be much appreciated also.

Does anyone have experience renting out a studio apt above a garage in Charlotte? We are looking to buy a house within walking distance of the blue line and most houses in that area do not have garages. To fund building a garage we are looking at the possibility of building one with a loft that we can rent out. This is an area with no HOA so there wouldn't be any red tape from that end but I want to know if anyone has experienced pushback from Charlotte or Mecklenburg county.

I’m going to agree with the others suggesting the Chinese cabinets. They’re cheaper than box stores and higher quality. I used to get mine from Lifeart cabinets out of Atlanta.
