Scott, I've only used Angela at Lawyers. I'm not sure about which agents you've used. I've never heard of who you recommended but I'd definitely give them a try.

Hey Cody, the meetings with a speaker we have quarterly. But inbetween those we do Happy Hour type meet ups. Next meet up is Tues, Oct 18. If you haven't already join our group on Facebook - Amarillo REIG. You can also join the mailing list on the website - amarilloreig.com

Welcome Jimmy! There's lots of good investors in Amarillo that can help you get started. Also, we have an investor group that meets every other month or so. Search for Amarillo REIG on Facebook. Our website is amarilloreig.com

 Great job on the purchase!!

Here's an article that talks about Amarillo's economic strength. I'm biased but I believe it's a great area to invest!

Post: Advice for starting a REIG or REIA

There seemed to be a huge need in my town for an investors group. So taking Josh Dorkin's advice, I started one with another local guy I met here on BP!

Our first meeting was a simple meet n greet last week and we had about 16 people total, which I thought was pretty good.

The word is getting out and now I believe we could have up to 30-40 attenders next time. So things are getting real!

Any advice for running an REIG? Have any of you attended or started your own group? What type of structure or format do you have? What do you like/dislike about your group?

And what's the difference between calling it an REIG or REIA? Is the latter only if you're a part of a larger org?

Currently we are discussing quarterly meetings with dues being $25 per mtg.

Any other advice or suggestions you can give me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks Robert. That's the likely location - I'll receive verification early next week.

I went to one in Las Vegas a few years ago sponsored by a popular guru author with the purple covered books. ;)

There were various breakout groups for different products and systems by others. (It was basically just several sales pitches.)

Since this wasn't my first rodeo I was able to just observe, pick up a few nuggets and resist paying for anything.

And I'm not positive, but I think that there are people planted in the audience to be the first ones to slam their notebook shut and run to the front, just to encourage others.

I attend IROC meetings each year through the Apartment Association. There is normally one meeting every other month that is on a different topic - HUD, finding deals, tenant nightmares, etc. (This year the series is geared toward landlording.) At one time I knew an investor that held his own meetings. I believe he quit doing them because they were too much work. But I've been interested in starting a group if you guys want to discuss ideas. It would be great if only to be around other like-minded people.
