Welcome Mike! I am in the IT field as well and also a big MMM fan. I'm new here but looking to get into REI for similar reasons. I'm still researching and planning while I wait for the sale to close on our previous residence, and then I plan to make a move.

I'll second the vote for Buffalo, and point out that Porch.com recently ranked Buffalo #12 among Best Places to Own a Home in America.

Hi all, I am a somewhat-new member who has actually lurked a lot and even posted a little bit, but am just getting around to making my introductions.  My apologies on being a rude newb :)

I joined because I am interested in investing in rental properties and buy-and-hold scenarios.  I also have a soft spot for rehabs as my growing up my family did a decent number of them as a way to "house hack."

Right now I own and occupy a SFH in Williamsville and have another SFH on the market in North Buffalo (our former residence). We're currently trying to sell but I'm toying with the idea of hanging on to it and turning it into my first rental. Not sure on the pros/cons of SFH in that neighborhood so I'm interested to hear what other knowledgeable folks have to say.

I can attest that there is some market for it.  Whether the demand is met or not I can't say.

My experience is that executives on short-term stays are staying at places like the Buffalo Club, or they've got a corporate-owned loft or condo on the waterfront, etc.

Take this with a large grain of salt, as this is just what I've observed working in a corporate environment downtown and keeping my ears open :)
