Hey guys, just wanted to pop in and say how glad I am that I became an agent. I signed with my broker a little less than two months ago, and I just got my first commission checks (as a buyers agent on a sale and on a rental). I learned a ton during the process, and now I'm even more excited to work on the next deals! To all those considering whether they should get their license or not, I definitely think it's worth it. I didn't have any expectations going in, but it's amazing how a little networking with friends and family will bring your first leads. Now I'm going to focus on advertising and finding my own leads from the public. Stay tuned! And good luck on your business!

Looking for a CPA to help with tax preparation.  Preferably in Palm Beach County, but will be able to travel to Broward or Martin counties as well.  I'm a real estate agent, also with a w-2 income, and am looking for advice on how to set up my investment business (1 rental property now, thousands more on the horizon).  If you know any CPA with an investor mind, I would really appreciate the referral.

Keywords: West Palm Beach, Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, Stuart, Boynton Beach, Lake Worth, Wellington, Royal Palm Beach, Delray Beach, Boca Raton.

Newly licensed agent here in south FL.  My advice is (once you get licensed) interview ~5 brokers to determine the best fit for you and your business needs.  Every broker will want to have you on board, so it's really all about what makes the most sense for you.  For myself, it was all about getting good training and having a good fee/commission structure for a part-time agent (I have a full time job, doing this on the side for now).

If you'd like to discuss more, feel free to pm me.

Congrats @Charles Coaston!  I was just in the same boat.  I interviewed the top 5 brokerages in my area, and chose what I felt the best fit for me would be.  It's all really about what you want and how you feel the brokerage will help you get there.  For me, I wanted great training, good commission splits, and minimal desk fees.  I also wanted a brokerage familiar with investing.  I think if you go in with the mindset of what you want to achieve, you will find the right place for you.

Good luck!

What I don't get is why it takes them so long to get these homes to market.  You would think they would want to get a non-performing asset off their books immediately, but like @Troy Norwood said sometimes they sit for years without anything being done.

Hi Samantha Cunha - I know you didn't ask for my advice, but I feel like I can help you. I just recently got licensed in Florida after taking my course online with real estate express. I felt that the course was very poorly organized. After passing the course, I didn't feel ready to take the exam, so I purchased a different text book (Florida Real Estate Principles, Practices & Law) and read that. After completing the book, I felt completely ready, and passed the exam with ease. For what it's worth, the online class was cheap and easy. I just felt that it didn't prepare me for the exam like the book did. Your experience may vary. :)
