I've got a couple properties in the norfolk va area and I need a recommendation for a general contractor. I'm looking for a team who can paint as well as fix issues like broken steps or cabinet doors.

Has anyone in the forums that operates in the norfolk va area worked with someone who is reliable and can recommend someone?

Thanks for the answer @Julia Latreille-Favre

My plan is to purchase it and live in it for the foreseeable future.

I've been hearing that I should probably do a regular loan first and then refinance with the 203k so that I won't have so many complications during closing. Do you see any issues with going that route?

FYI I'm inexperienced with FHA 203k loans so what part doesn't make sense?

Does finding a fixerupper for use with a 203k loan as the financing option not make sense? Is that not how those things work?

Does me having a budget of $600k with a 203k fha loan not make sense? Do they not use budgets?

Does me starting a new job in a new city and wanting to find a fixerupper not make sense?

Does me starting a new job in a new city and using that as an opportunity to make a sound investment not make sense?

Gotta say you're not sounding very helpful with the whole "You're not making sense at all". Help me help you to understand.

I'm starting a new job in the bay area and I see it as an opportunity for a long term investment in California. Are there any agents on here with experience helping investors find fixer upper properties that they can use a 203k loan with or forclosure/shortsale properties? I'm trying to get creative because my budget is only $600k.

Post: Relocating for work, how can I capitalize?

I just got a job at a tech company in the San Francisco Bay Area and will be moving there soon with my family of 5 and I've been preapproved for a $600k FHA loan.

Does anyone know the bay area market very well?  I'm thinking a duplex would be a great way to go but I don't know anything about this city. It seems like everything is around $1M. Can anyone offer any advice or tips on how to capitalize on this opportunity with my meager half million dollar budget?

I'm interested in a duplex around NSU. What would you say is the issue around there? @Anthony Pinto

@Shane Welch I'm a new investor in this area as well. How's this property working out for you?

@Suping Li How much did this project end up costing you?
