Nobody is talking about the tax write offs good and bad. I am looking for information on whether or not property tax can be written off in your tax returns. York PA says no. That's a big deal when you're looking to recoup $3,000 in property taxes.

I am looking at a few houses in Frankford against my realtor's advise. I also read an article about the decline of Frankford and it really did turn me off, but I'm still going to check the area out for myself. The agent basically said it was comparable to the drug laden prostitute riddled Kensington. I've never been to either but those are the known bad parts. I can't see why Port Richmond would be ok but Frankford is not.

@Peter Vekselman Investing close to where you live is just not possible in NYC. At least not for a sub50k investor. York, Scranton, even Philly are 2 plus hours away. I sure won't be popping up to fix a leak so property management will have to be in the budget. Even a flight to York PA will take 2 hours then an hour drive. Property taxes though in York are frightening! How are investors seeing any gains. $2500 a year on a 5 bedroom. Yikes!

What about York Pennsylvania? Lots of shops, a mall, chain restaurants. Anyone know about York? What rents go for a 3 bed 1 bath? @David Krulac Got any more like that?

@Avi Garg not at all! You all are schooling me. I need to be realistic about what to expect. I Have this fantasy that I'll buy a $30k property put $10k in rehab and get $1100 in rent. After expenses cash flow $800. Is that unrealistic?

If $200-$300 a month sounds good then I guess a profit is a profit. Maybe I'm greedy.

@Matt Pagano Thanks for the recommendation. My issue is the finance part. Doesn't paying back the loan eat into most of the gains? I was under the impression that sub 30k works because one can buy cash.

Can one really see real returns after financing a sub 30k deal? You have to pay the loan back first!
