I would also be interested. Currently renting out a two family in the Bronx, and thinking out buying my next property out of state.

Chris Rosenberg it's very quiet. Completely different feel from Manhattan. It's very suburban. I know that there are some very rough parts of the Bronx, but my area doesn't seem to be one of them thankfully.

Hey Cheng,

I know an excellent agent for the Bronx, who I have used, and who was recommended to me by a friend who is a full time REI. Feel free to PM me if you're interested.

@Audelle Bodie Well basically my experience was that all the properties that were a decent deal had a bunch of willing buyers. The market in the Bronx has been really hot lately. This makes it hard to get an offer accepted by a seller because VA loans are subject to some extra steps before they go through. For instance the property has to be approved by a VA appraiser. A lot of seller's do not want to deal with VA loans because of this. On top of that I was getting a 0% down loan and most seller's want at least some money down for their properties. Often times I would make an offer but other buyers were offering cash or a substantial amount of money down and so I wasn't even considered.

Omari Bookal Honestly it's extremely hard to find anything that cash flows decently in the city. I think I was incredibly lucky to find the property I did, especially with the constraints of a VA loan. That being said I think it depends on how much money you have to work with and the opportunities are here as long as you're willing to be patient and look for them.

I just bought my first property in the Bronx, north of Foxhurst. It's an 8 bedroom duplex, and I got it through a VA loan for $550,000. It took months of looking, a bunch of rejected offers, but I finally did it! Thanks to the Bigger Pockets community for all your assistance!

Thanks Ceasar Rosas ! I guess since I am currently paying rent I would still be able to save money depending on how much I can minimize out of pocket costs. I will look into the neighborhoods you have advised and calculate what the ROI would be if I weren't living there.
