@Peter Walther

To get into the disctinctions between fraud & forgery is not my intention in the article, nor to opine on the various reported cases of alleged title fraud (for example, who would prevail in a given action), merely to encourage property owners to be aware of red flags & risk factors, & take steps to make their ownership more secure.  The websites I listed are government websites that tend not to charge anything at all for their services.  I even didn't mention any paid services (nor do I have ownership in any such services).  And obviously their alerts don't prevent the fraud from occurring, changes in procedure are definitely needed for prevention.

@Maria Bakaj

In case you haven't heard about this, property owners can Sign up for title fraud alerts in many parts of the country now, for example in Denver Colorado:

@Charlie MacPherson

This isn’t a brand new thread but I wanted to post on it because it’s a continuing problem that can have devastating consequences

I was so alarmed at how easy it can be for this to happen that I just posted an article on deed fraud & what are some red flags to look for

It contains some links to check your property & register your property for fraud alerts with the clerk's office’s in various parts of the country

Seminole County, FL now has title fraud alerts available as well:

I've encouraged friends & family to sign up for these as well
