Huntsville metro crossed half-million mark in 2021, new Census estimates say

By Ramsey Archibald AL.com

The Rocket City keeps booming. The Huntsville metro area, the only large metro in Alabama to see rapid growth last year, passed the 500,000 mark in 2021.

The Huntsville metro area, which includes Limestone and Madison counties at the northern edge of Alabama, added nearly 9,000 people in just one year, from July 1, 2020 to July 1, 2021. That was the most total people added by any Alabama metro area during that time.

April 20, 2022/in Automotive, Engineering, Featured, Lead, Manufacturing, News/by Noah Logan

Toyota Manufacturing is again emphasizing the importance of its Huntsville plant for their plans to develop and build the cars of future.

On Tuesday morning, executives from Toyota gathered at the Chamber of Commerce, along with Huntsville city leaders, to announce new funding totaling $383 million being invested across four manufacturing plants across America. Of that total, the Huntsville Toyota facility is receiving $222 million, almost 60 percent of the entire investment. The remaining funds are being invested in Toyota plants in Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee.

This new investment will help the Huntsville plant develop a new four-cylinder production line with the capacity to produce engines that will suit combustion and hybrid electric powertrains. Due to this investment, the facility will expand its total footprint by 114,000 square feet. This is the sixth building expansion since 2003 and brings the total Toyota Alabama investment to nearly $1.6 billion. The new line of engines is scheduled to be in production by Fall of 2023.

THE BEST WORK-FROM-HOME CITIES FOR 2022

"Huntsville shot up our list like a rocket; that makes sense, as the famously geeky city is home to NASA’s primary rocketry research center and Space Camp. The city hit #3 on US News and World Report’s “Best Places to Live” recently in part thanks to an aggressive downtown redevelopment plan, which brought an arts center to a STEM-oriented town. Thanks to the defense industry presence, you’ll find smart people come to Huntsville from everywhere, making it a diverse, accepting place to live."

RESEARCH REPORT | MARCH 2022 COMPTIA TECH TOWN INDEX #5 Huntsville, Alabama

"The first two years of the Tech Town Index, Huntsville, Alabama ranked no. 10 and rose to no. 9 last year. This year, Huntsville claims the no. 5 spot, and it’s a well-deserved ranking. When you think of Huntsville, you might conjure up images of military defense and aerospace technology. While that’s a big part of what put the Rocket City on the map, today Huntsville attracts all kinds of IT talent, making it one of the best places to live for tech jobs.

In 2021, Huntsville employers posted 14,085 available technology jobs. Additionally, the number of IT jobs is expected to grow to nearly 20,000 in just one year and to about 21,000 in five years. What’s the reason for the one-year surge? Simply put, companies want to be in Huntsville – and they need IT pros."

Here are several local property managers for you to check out. They aren't in any particular order. I'd check out the websites to see the rates and fees as well the types of properties they manage. After you have picked a few you like, give them a call to do a personal interview.

What can you do? We're lucky in that we have sprawling farms that can, and are, being developed and our infrastructure is in overdrive to stay ahead. Major east/west, north/south arteries enable large amounts of traffic to move easily across the county. Anywhere in Madison County is 30 minutes or less from the major employment campuses. Our low cost of living, abundant natural resources and business-friendly environment are drawing national and international interests. We can't stop the growth, so we're planning ahead to absorb it.
