The Discover it and Chase Freedom cards from what I've seen are more for average credit scores.  If you're just starting to build you'd either be looking at secured cards or you can also try the Capital One Classic Platinum.  Also be careful of how many cards you try to apply for in a given time period, it makes little dings to your credit score.

A hand-me-down (my brother's old car) 2001 Chevy Malibu with 20" rims. Right now it's got just under 128k miles on it. Once I can get my head fully wrapped around REI (need to physically "see" things) and when this car kicks the bucket for good I would like to purchase something new, some thing I can claim I bought and feel good about.

Doing taxes right now but I'll be home soon to watch the game.  Unfortunately my Cowboys aren't in it, nor my home state Panthers but I'm still going for the NFC on this one.

I do taxes seasonally, so I know for sure if you have a HUD-1 then make sure to take that with you. Beyond that the inspection fees, the deposit and closing cost I don't see having an impact.

One of a few books (the other two books by Karen are in that list) I know are on my must buy list.  The podcast has already helped answer some and add loads more questions that I'm continuing to research while holding back my normal learning style (I'm more of a hands on learner)

The double yellow lines is a decent indicator, but also scout out about a mile or two from the location you're looking into to see what is around the area.  Some places don't have the double lines but there could be highway exits or schools nearby that can make it a busy street.

Just from the inexpeirienced perspective, call ahead if you can't make it (barring phone is dead and so is the car lol).  It shows some professionalism and people tend to understand that things happen spur of the moment.

I'm reading all the advice while on my lunch break and love how the discussion just blossomed quite a bit into things I'm interested in persuing. As it stands now (and before reading all the advice) I want to attempt a buy and hold on a SFH preferably with long term tenants. I've heard some troubling stories about purchasing pre rented homes so I'm a bit weary about that even though I've seen a few in my area in that scenario (four houses all on the same street, found it online a few days ago on realtor.com). Building the team will be the "major" undertaking as I see it now.

This came to mind from a blog post from Brandon Turner "3 Smart Ways to Make an Extra $1,000 a Month Through Real Estate Investing" as well as seeing quite a few success stories.  Aside from thinking how an extra $1000 a month would help me *coughstudentloanscough*  I've been still browsing, reading, absorbing information from this site but find myself wondering how people starting out funded their first real estate venture.  I've seen quite a few blogs about how to start when I just happen to find a couple of hundred thousand dollars when I washed my jeans (just joking about that) but I also wonder about those who didn't have the money flat out to spend on say a rental or a flip.

I'll add Credit Sesame to what @Jeff Trevarthen said.  Mostly cause Karma is linked to Transunion and Sesame is linked to Experian.  This way you'll have two of your three credit scores you can check up on
