Post: From Software to Real estate

Hi Raj,

It depends on what kind of "help" you are seeking... help in saving money when you purchase investment properties? Or help in gaining the knowledge on real estate investing?

A real estate salesperson license will not give you the knowledge you seek on real estate investing. It teaches you how to handle real estate transactions for your buyers and sellers.

The "cost" you think you are saving from representing yourself (rather than having another licensee rep you), may well cost you a lot more than you can imagine if you are not careful.

Instead, find a knowledgeable agent/broker who can do the legwork for you (while you do what you are good at... software consulting), and let that person earn that commission by helping you find the right properties to invest.

To educate yourself about RE investing, a more effective way I think, would be to attend local real estate investment club meet ups and network with experienced investors and learn directly from them.

All the best to your real estate endeavors!

Welcome to BP, Jose! One is never too young to start, and for starter, you're in the right place. :)

While you start saving and wholesaling, network with members near your area and listen to their experience.

Just remember, when the going gets tough... come back and read your original post on BP. It will remind you of your dream and get you back on your feet quickly!

Hi Dax, welcome to BP community! I know a very nice guy in Visalia who is very familiar with real estate and lending there. If you need an introduction, let me know. I will make the connection! :)

Hi Jacob, welcome to BP! I think it depends on whether you plan to manage it yourself or not. If you are set on out-of-state then it is most likely you will go the property management route. Lots of pros and cons, I think it comes down to your time and your personality.

Attending some local meet ups will be a good next step to meet and hear about other people's experience. I plan to do that myself!

@David C. Hi J, thanks for the welcome. I like East Bay market and I also look at Richmond from time to time. But I don't know Richmond enough at this point. I hope to learn from you about that area soon.

@Mehran K.  Very solid rents here, I agree. I hope to meet you in a meet up or get together soon so I can learn more from you. Thank you for sharing.

Hi everyone!

My name is Cindy and I've signed up to be a BP member for a few months now. I didn't formally introduce myself until now... I have not been active on the forum before and just getting out of my comfort zone.

I am a real estate investor/buy-and-hold property owner for about 5 years now, and my total RE experience has been about 10 years. When the RE took a down turn in 2007, something clicked in my head and I discovered that I really enjoy taking on the challenge to turn a little something into something a lot more!

BP forum/discussion has a wealth of knowledge and I thank BP and all the members for sharing their wisdom and experience.

Nice to meet you here! ^_^

Cindy

Awesome accomplishment, Amanda! WTG!

I take my kids with me to house hunt on the weekends and after school (a lot!) and I find that showing them that "this is what I do daily" is the most impactful learning I can give them (and prepare them for real life), instead of sitting in some after school program waiting for me to go pick them up when I finish my work.

Keep it up! ^_^
