ok i may be bringing up an old post but im having a similar situation and i was wondering what everyone think of it.
i do understand education is important and if i can, i'd rather stick to it. but hear my story out:
im currently a 3rd year in college and i started out wanting to be a doctor so my major is science. a few months ago, i was introduced to the world of investing (stocks, real estate, etc) and after reading a lot of rich dad books and many stock books i have come to a realization. i want financial freedom. i want to work for myself and escape the rat race. to do so, i was gonna change my major to business to learn all the neccessary skills i need in building up my future business company and learning as much as i can about finance and economics. sadly, it's too late for me to switch major which brings me to my current problem.
Why am i spending lots and lots of hours a week studying science when i won't even be using it? I find myself reading more RE and stock books that any of my courses textbooks. Knowledge is power. But by staying in college, i cant receive the knowledge i need in re and stock investing, i need to learn them myself by reading. So what's the point of continuing college for a degree i wont be using at all?
The only reason i havent dropped out yet is because, like many, a bachelors degree secures a job. I may have mentioned before i dont want to work for people, but to begin my investing path, i need money.
I am considering going to a community college instead to get an associate degree in real estate so i can work in a firm to start my goal rather than sticking to my university for the next 2 years, wasting my time studying science. The way i see college is like investing, it has to produce a good return. If i stay where i am right now, i dont see any good return coming from it...
