Post: Need Advice: VA vs Conventional Loan

@Merin Porter

Hi Merin, I am not a seasoned investor but I purchased two of my rental properties using a VA loan. It is true-just because you can use a VA loan doesn't mean that you should. It is not always the best option. In addition, using the VA loan leaves very little to no equity (initially) so I assume cashflow is your goal?

I was unclear. Are you considering moving to another state just to purchase the investment property?

@Eric H.

Welcome to BP! Yes, this site has tons of great information. There is also a San Antonio real estate meet up group, I think the next meeting in on the 10th. All the best on your REI journey!

@Rose Davis

Hi Rose, In my opinion the decision depends on your goals and the tax advantages/disadvantages.  I prefer buy and hold. Especially if you are able to rent the property out and pull equity and still cash flow.

@Calvin Mclean Welcome to BP! Check out the podcasts many of the guests have multi-family properties and share tons of good information. Off the top of my head check out Michael Blank. He is a deal syndicator and has good information in his blog posts. I'm also looking to get into multi-family. The  San Antonio area.  All the best in your investing.

@Albert Okagbue Welcome to BP. Check out the podcasts. They are very informative (and entertaining).  Your CPA background is a bonus. As far as the "how" and "why"-Make sure you understand your "numbers"-the calculations to determine if you are making a good investment. The calculators on this site can help with that. All the best.

Also, don't let the lack of a real estate license prevent you from starting your real estate investing journey. All the best!
