@Jason Scharf I have to second what @Will Chamberlin says, Syracuse is a great rental market! Sounds like you know the area well, I would try to leverage that to reach your goal.

With your finances should't be too hard to secure an extra line of credit or some extra financing, however, letting go of the job will make it harder.

Great to see you have your goals set (very specific), best of luck getting there!

@Tom Chen

I will be around this weekend; coffee sounds great. I'll PM you to coordinate.

@Eddie J. I just got to Syracuse this past summer and there is definitely value here. Very strong rent market, but make sure that you do your homework about what kind of area you want to get into.

Hey @Philip Zaengle, interesting because I just relocated to Syracuse as well from Norcross, GA. Yes, quite the change indeed. I live in Eastwood and looking to close on my first SFH thi month (even more coincidences). Would love to talk about the projects. If you ever want to grab a cup of coffee let me know.

Best of luck!

Hello @Keegan Mulholland

This is a question I have struggled with as well. Since your employer gives you the 3% regardless, I would avoid contributing to their 401k program. My reasoning is that normally the investment choices employers provide inside a 401k is very limited, and come with high management fees (your employer might be one of the few who provides decent retirement options, that I don't know).

Do your research, a good place to start is a book I recently read "The smartest 401(k) book you'll ever read: Maximize your retirement savings ... the smart way!" by Daniel Solin. Very concise, easy read and even has some worksheets to guide you. Have you looked into maximizing your contributions to a Roth IRA instead? I'm also here in the Syracuse area if you ever want to talk.

Good luck with your investing, and glad to see you are starting at a young age!!!

Congrats @Will Chamberlin!!! Good to hear that your portfolio keeps growing. I'm on the hunt for door #1, hoping to find a property so I can work on it over the winter. Congrats again, and if you don't mind could you share the property location?

Hey @Ryan Hansen, welcome to the BP community!!!

I am also a beginner investor here in the Syracuse area. Interested mainly on buy and hold properties. Syracuse seems to be a great rental market, but I only been here for 4 months. Let me know if you ever want to bounce ideas of each other and if you have time try to check out one of the Onondaga County Real Estate Investors Club (http://www.ocreic.org) great place to learn and meet more experienced innvestors.

Best of luck!

Hey @Account Closed welcome to the BP community! Definitely a great place to your REI journey started. I live in Syracuse (disclaimer, I just moved here 2 months ago) but if you decide to invest in the area and need some local help, let me know.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the info @Cerwin Haynes, it will be great to talk to an agent/investor in the area.

I'll start looking towards the West side of town too, I have been concentrating on the East for now.

Thanks for the recommendation @Will Chamberlin, I reached out to Ann today and will be swinging by her office tomorrow. Mentioning your name was more than enough, but thanks for the introduction offer.

Let me know next time you are in the cuse, maybe we can get coffee and talk REI.

Thanks again!!!
