If he wants money up front it's most likely a scam. If you Google James Marino money lender the only thing that comes up is this post. I wouldn't do it personally.

I'm in a similar situation. Just passed my exam and am now looking at brokerages in the Denver, Colorado area. If anyone knows of a good brokerage please let me know. Thanks
