Hey Guys! So I'm 19 and planning to buy my first house this September. I plan to buy it cash at an auction, live in it while I fix it up, and then flip it.

The point of this post is because I'd like to hear any advice anybody thinks could be useful for me before I make the jump. Maybe like a book I should read before I buy the house. I'm investing my life savings into this house so its a pretty big jump to me.

And one thing I think about a lot is if I should talk to a lawyer at all. I don't want to get in any legal trouble.

Thanks in advance!

So I'm 17 years old and in my last year of high school. College isn't in my plans. After high school I want to find a job in the construction field and invest in real estate. I live in a really poor city, sadly. Does that mean I can't pursue a career in real estate? I would really love to own my first property before I turn 19. I know I have a lot to learn but I'm eager and motivated to do so. Any advice on how get started and how to purchase my first property is greatly appreciated.

My main idea is to buy a really old house at an auction for a few grand and fix it up to sell or rent it. Does anyone have experience in doing this? I appreciate any advice that anyone has to give me. Thank you.

Congratulations! I would also love to hear your story. My goal is to someday get out of the rat race just like you did. You are an inspiration

So my plan is to get my relator's license when I turn 18 (I'm 17). I want to work as a Realtor and a construction laborer, save up some cash and eventually buy my own properties. I realize I have a lot to learn. Is there any books you guys can recommend? I appreciate all the help.

@Jeremy Tillotson That's awesome you got a house that cheap! I do have a lot of skills to fix a house but I also have a lot to learn. I know a little more than the basics of Carpentry, plumbing, electric, drywall, etc. Are you currently making an income from the house? Or are you still working on it? How bad was the condition?

Thank you guys for all your input. I don't know much on how to become a realtor and honestly, it seems overwhelming. I'm sure I can do it if I put the effort into it. But one way I was thinking of buying my first property is to buy a really cheap one at an auction. Some friends, relatives, and a teacher of mine said I can probably find a house for just a few grand at an auction. I know a house that cheap has to have A LOT of things to be fixed but I think I can fix it up with time and patience. What do you guys think? Maybe this isn't a good idea and I'd be better off trying to get a loan? I'd like to hear your guys' opinions.
