Does anyone have any recommendations or tips on opening a Home Equity Line of Credit for an out-of-state property? I live in NC, but I have a rental property in Montana. I contacted a few local banks in Montana and they all say I have to come to Montana to be at the closing in person.  I'd prefer not to take a trip to Montana.

I currently bank with USAA and their website says they no longer offer HELOCs.

Any recommendations?

@Ross Ellington If you are a disabled vet, you may be eligible for a tax exemption on your primary home as well.

"A disabled veteran in Texas may receive a property tax exemption of up to $12,000 on his/her primary residence, depending on the severity of the disability incurred as a result of service. A full property tax exemption is available for veterans who are 100 percent disabled as a result of service."

Hi! My name is Samantha and I live in the Piedmont/Triad area of central NC. I'm in the process of purchasing a second home and renting out my first home.
