Post: The Journey of a "Nothing to Something" Real Estate Investor

So I put my resignation in last week. I've been down this path before when it comes to chasing my dreams. It didn't come with the greatest of outcomes, but the lessons and character that I was rewarded were priceless. As Napoleon Hill said, "Every failure yields the seed of an equivalent success."

My thoughts have always been in real estate investing and for some reason it took a lot of cultivating of those thoughts to bring it to a boil. For the last 6 months I've dedicated all of my energy and actions to real estate. Absorbing everything I possibly can regarding the topic especially the specific strategy I plan to start with. Which is why I'm here posting in this particular forum.

Initially my plan was to start with wholesaling, but after many many hours of deep thought and consideration I've decided to start with rehabbing with a vision to grow into more creative investments and buy/hold.

My plan is to use this thread along with my blog as a place to record my journey, tell my story, and hopefully provide others with some "real-time" material regarding my experiences. I also hope that my journey will be intriguing enough for members like you to follow me and offer your own advice, guidance, and criticisms. I hope to look back on this thread 5 years from now and say, "Wow look how far we've all come? Where to next!?!"

So I welcome you to follow this thread and stay tuned. I'll provide my blog URL shortly as well. I'll be commenting here and blogging at least twice a week.

Hope to see you in the thread!

Paul

What's the situation with this meetup? I haven't heard anything on whether or not this is going to happen?

Hello everyone!

I'm posting this to advertise myself. I am a new real estate investor as well as new to the industry as a whole, and in order for me to reach the level of success that I'm going to attain, I know that I must provide a large amount of service. There's no such thing as something for nothing.

I figure this service should not only be extended to my prospective clients, but also to my colleagues, and can only help develop each others resources and network. I also figure the more encouragement and enrichment I provide others will only open more doors and opportunities.

Basically with the stage that I'm at in my business I am looking for an opportunity to gain some "ground level" knowledge, guidance, and experience which is why I turned on my computer and started broadcasting my request. I need to get my feet wet with what successful transactions look like so I'm offering some of my time to gain that experience. I wouldn't necessarily call this a request for a mentorship either, I simply want to learn by doing and if you have something for me to do, I can give you some of my time.

I'm located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, so if you're in the area I'm open to coming to you or if you have something I could do more "virtually" miles or even states away I'm open to that as well.

If you'd like to have a phone meeting to introduce ourselves and to see if I could be a good fit to help your business please contact me. I definitely welcome the opportunity. Or If you'd like to talk just for the sake of "talking shop" I'd be up for that too.

Thanks!

Paul

You definitely have the basic idea down. My only thoughts would be to negotiate with a strategy that can adapt to the type of seller you're talking to. Obviously the more deals you do the better "feel" you will get. But in the beginning I would recommend you get really good at setting appointments and the sellers adhering to them and for now visit every property prior to discussing any kind of money.
