Post: Investing in real estate while holding a job. What kind of job though?

I am in a similar boat as Mike M. is. I work a full time job doing corporate security management, which is often 60-70 hours a week. For this reason, I am in the buy and hold investment game. I too agree with the others, get a job that pays your rent, and use the flipping strictly as a nest egg builder. Make sure you put away enough in your savings to cover your personal emergencies, then the rest can go towards your side gig with flipping houses. Good luck Edwin!

John ChapmanWhen I say Garland, I am really saying far north Garland (including Sachse) and Rowlett. I really like the options that the lake properties have, and the rents to PITI are actually quite good, some of my family is sitting between 30-50% net. If I was to go into Garland personally, I would be going after apartments either on 635 or on PGBT.

Good Morning,

My name is Jonathan Prewitt, and I am calling myself a noob because I have been out of the game for quite a while. In the early 2000's, while serving in the Navy, I bought a few section 8 houses. In 2009, after being shot at, I left that world. I just recently jumped back in after getting married and buying a new house for the wife and I. I am primarily located in McKinney, but I am always looking for SFs in Plano, Allen, Frisco, and Garland. I have been on here for a little while, just never thought to actually introduce myself. Some short term (3-5 years) goals:

Purchase 1 rental house per year
Get into multi-family or even apartments
Stay away from house flipping*

*I am not into flipping because I don't want to do that much work right now... ;)

Howdy folks... I too am in DFW, but I am north of most of y'all. I am in the McKinney area. I only have 1 SFH right now, as I am a recovering HUD Sec 8 guy. I took about 6 years off from REI, but getting married and a higher paying full time gig led me to buy another home, so I fell back into my old ways! I would definitely be down for a meet up... Sounds like a lot of us are in the north Dallas/FMAP area, we could do a Blue Goose night or something....

FMAP (Frisco, McKinney, Allen, and Plano)
