I am a full time industrial engineer, the economy part of it is the only thing that helps me with REI. You need to know money and marketing. You can have the best stuff to sell or wanting to buy, but if you can’t market it, it won’t sell easy. If I could choose again, i would choose full time finance or marketing!

Welcome to BP! It is hands down the best place to learn about investing. I wouldn’t buy any courses, I’d rather spend the time here, reading the forums, talk to people and reading BP’s books. In my experience, you buy one course, and then they try to sell you another course in the course you already bought.

I would definitely avoid the big brokers as they cater mostly to agents who are full time agents. If your wife only wants to do it on the side, then she should find a broker who doesn’t charge a yearly fee (or if they do charge a yearly fee, it should be veeery low). You want to be able to keep as much of your commission as possible, so find a broker that will let you keep most of if, even all of it. Big name brokers focus on training their agents to be agents. To me it sounds like you guys want to be investors. So maybe it would be an idea to talk to a broker who is also an investor. I’m an agent as well, who invest on the side of my full time job.

My biggest concern would've been what @Michael Knaus said about being able to sell a house that has flooded before. But if you (@Rae Hoffman) are going to keep it as a rental, then it's all good, as long as you know the implications (which you've factored in). *thumbs up*

Honestly, it depends on what your goals are.

Are you planning to move full-time into real estate investing? If yes, then I'd pass on the promotion and focus my spare time on real estate investing.

If you never saw yourself as a full-time investor, then I'd take the promotion and put that extra money towards real estate investing in the form of turnkey properties. You are more hands off, that way your time with the family isn't compromised.

I had been wanting to go pro for almost a year, but hadn't pulled the trigger. This price increase kicked me in the butt and made me do it. Locked in the old price ;)

Hey guys,

I am in need of a plumber who can help me out with a leak under two of the bathroom sinks in a property that I own in Houston.

Please let me know if you know a good one who isn't too expensive.

Thanks!
