Great area.  I have family that owns and rents a beautiful Victorian in the heart of Jim Thorpe.  It does good as a vacation rental and a great place to stay when its not being used.

Thanks Dan.  How often do you get to visit the area?  Maybe my wife and I can take you out to lunch and pick your brain.  We're on Long Island but try to get out there as often as possible to visit family and see new areas.

Thanks Justin.  Actually, my sister lives in Allentown (Whitehall to be specific - not sure if that's the same).  But, yes,  I'm looking between Allentown and Scranton and everywhere in between.  I also have family in Jim Thorpe which is a great area.    That's the area I'm looking to move when the time is right.

I agree but the area I live (Long Island) is very difficult due to the ridiculous taxes.  I'll be moving to PA in the next 5-6 years.  I have family in PA and know some of the area but was looking for ideas on how to research different areas.

Thanks.

I am interested in multi-family rental properties and/or single family vacation rentals in Eastern Pennsylvania.  As with most newbies, I'm overwhelmed by the amount of information available and am nervous about the first deal.

When looking for an ideal location, can anyone share their strategies and what tools you use to research neighborhoods you're not familiar with?

Thanks.

Great job and an inspiring story for a newbie investor like myself. Thanks for sharing your growing pains. I'm currently looking for my first project and am getting very frustrated but happy to see persistence pays off.

Looking forward to the final numbers and to one day share my own story.
