We looked at this too, it seems like in the real popular vacation area its hard to find a property that will cash flow. If you go farther north on the island its less desirable but more reasonable priced. Certain parts of the island is super super expensive.

IT engineer here too. My career forces me to not only understand all the nerdy engineering stuff, but also the business side, and making sure the money i spend brings value to the business. I do beleive in a lot of ways it helps in REI.
