@Jocelyn Canfield Do you mean communities as in specific neighborhoods within Philly? If that's the case, something to look into. 

@Joe P. Those are concerns in the back of my mind as well. I would have to vet that trusted person(s) who can manage my property and take care of the emergencies when things go sideways. Do you mainly manage your properties? What would happen if you travel, and an emergency occurs? 

I don't mind having strangers in my part of the house. I've stayed in many Airbnbs myself, and I trust the people who use it to host or stay. 

Hi everybody,

I am a new investor planning to buy my first home (duplex) in Philadelphia to househack it.

It would be my home base, but I plan to travel 6-9 months out of the year, meaning my unit would be collecting dust when I'm gone. While I am away traveling, I was thinking I could use it for Airbnb. I could have my friend manage it, or Airbnb has staff you can hire.

I would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you in advance for your responses.
