Spencer

Thanks for sharing - I'm excited for your vision.  Great questions.  In my opinion it's definitely worth hiring a CPA as you get rolling.  As they learn your situation they'll be a great resource for decision making as opportunities come up.

From my past experience house-hacking, the percent of the house I was renting set the percent of expenses I could write off.

I've got a great REI-friendly CPA who would be a good resource. I'd be happy to meet up and talk through your strategy and options for the future as well.

I'm working on a proposal for our city council allowing ADUs to built on non-owner occupied and multifamily properties.  Madison, WI currently restricts ADUs to owner-occupied SFHs.   We're of course severely undersupplied on rental units.

Are there any great examples of cities allowing ADUs more widely with sensible zoning and positive impact?

Any help is much appreciated!

Hey @Kaylyn Geiger.  So glad to see this question pop up.  I'm in Madison and looking to get an MTR up and running soon.  I haven't had the bandwidth yet to look at the data/demand. But attended the MTR workshop at BPCON and have the new book next up on my list.

I just finished working through some litigation with the city around a STR violation we got ourselves into. Not fun but it worked out!

My understanding is that Airbnb and Furnished Finder are both great platforms. Connecting with HR and firms moving traveling professionals seems ideal too.

Mid-term certainly makes numbers on some of the multifamily properties we're seeing come up make more sense!

What are your thoughts on ideal areas or a radius you'd want to stay within?  I'd be interested to hear what you come up with!
