Sorry to add to an old post. Looking to rehab an abandoned house in Beaufort County, SC. 

Your comment "Renovation average $6.5 SF." is for total renovation correct and not just drywall? 

I'm just a newbie here looking for clarification.

I only use "right" because we want to follow the law. 

@Dean St hillaire a friend, is busy tracking down the owner in another state. Much more difficult than it sounds.

Your idea on code enforcement is interesting and we may look into this route.  I think it's time for us to follow up with Adverse possession and the laws of South Carolina.

There is a Beaufort County, SC property that is abandoned and may have some squatters living in the property. We have no legal documents or rights to the property. 

Do we have any right or ability to secure the house with locks? Could the police help to secure the house?

Great to see a fellow investor in the area! Just like you, I am getting started in the business as well, but in the wholesale side. My target market is SC Lowcountry. Al Lambert is a wholesaler Pooler and he has a large target market. 

We have a local REI meetup at the Bluffton Library on a monthly basis. I always post the meetings in the Community -> Network Events section of Bigger Pockets.
