I used to work for a company who primarily marketed to short term renters and are very big into AirBnB. One of there properties went from making $18,000 annual long term to double short term. The wear and tear on the house was also significantly less. 

Mind you, they also had a different property stay vacant for months. 

I think it can work real well but you have to know the type of property/area that will work well short term.
