Hey @Matthew Lynch, I love the honesty of your post. My take is that when it comes to flashy boss-free careers such as investing (on a smaller scale) there will be loads of people/gamblers who have interest in either trying it out our doing it full time. This is the same reason why so many people go off to L.A./N.Y. (bigger scale, very flashy) to try to be a writer, director, actor, etc. So you're absolutely right that when something has big appeal such as "passive income", there will always be competition and a lot of people who want to make a living doing the same thing you are. What you have you to ask yourself if what is my edge? What skill sets, personality traits, networking advantages do you have to help you succeed? The people that tend to go on and succeed in REI are not necessarily the smartest or wealthy to begin; instead, they are people with a growth mind-set instead of a fixed. When others see hurdles and challenges they see opportunities for growth. Hope this helps, I wish you the best of luck. Direct Message me if you ever want to talk more about getting started. I got my RE brokers license in January, and purchased my first 4-plex rental income property in CO Springs in February. And am currently working on a flip in Denver. Cheers.
