Great episode.  I like how his analysis of demographic trends point to sustained/increased demand for multi-family and rental properties in the future.  The bit on speculating vs investing was interesting as well

If you are just starting out, then give Steven Cohen and George Dubés "Legal, Tax and Accounting Strategies for the Canadian Real Estate Investor" a read.

Great, thanks @Roy N, I'll pick that up and have a look!

Barsoum & E Venuto), and More Than Cashflow (J. Broad).  All good Canadian books.

Hope that helps.

Thanks so much Rob, that's very helpful!

Great, thanks for the recommendations @Cory Graham!  Looks like I'll pick up the Joint Venture book as that's what I intend to do for most of my properties.   Any specific other books from him you might recommend?  Seems he has quite a few that might cover the same topics.

Hello Canadian BP'ers,

I'd love some recommendations for books to read on real estate investing that's more specific to the Canadian investor.  I know there can be differences between how the US and Canada operates in terms of legal structures, financing, and others, so I'd like to find some help on the topics specific to Canadians.

A little about what I'm planning on investing in.  I'm currently looking at multi-family properties (3 units+) in the Moncton area, and will eventually look for properties in the Kootenays area of BC as well.  I'm investing for buy and hold cash flow.  Eventually as I learn more I'd like to get into value add investing, but for right now I'm looking for more turnkey properties.

I am reading The Real Estate Retirement Plan by Calum Ross right now, and just picked up the Bigger Pockets Long Distance Investing book (which on quick look seems very specific to the US market, although I'm sure there'll be good general advice as well).  If you have any other recommendations that would be great!

Thanks Julie, that's some great info!

@Davis Flanagan Great!  Thanks for your help!

Hello all,

I'll be making a trip out to Moncton next month to look at some multi-family properties (2-5 units) in the Moncton area and hopefully make some offers.  I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for realtors that are knowledgeable in multi family investing in the area, as well as good property management companies to have a look at?  Thanks a lot!

Also, if anyone in the area is free to meet up and talk real estate, I'd love to take you out for lunch or dinner if you're free!

Thanks,

Mark Locki

@Roy N. thanks that's very helpful. We're looking for 2-6 unit places so we'll talk with our local banks first.
