Adam, I whole-heartedly agree with Anthony. Leave the cards home. Bring someone with you who can play bad cop and help you get away from the salespeople. I've been to a similar event and the pressure is impressive. The tactics Anthony mentions like getting you to say yes to obvious statements (Are you looking to make more money than you do now?) are fun to watch but frustrating after a point. They are like pop-up dialog boxes but you can't click X in the corner to make them go away.

Enjoy the seminar, learn what you can, go home and check eBay, Craigslist, etc for those deeply discounted materials mentioned.

Great post. Thanks for bringing back statistics for us all. Oddly, I like and did well in statistics even though I don't consider myself a numbers guy.

There is also an REIA meeting in Waltham this coming Tuesday @Lamont Crawford.

Black Diamond meeting. Free and very well attended. Great speakers every month.

Welcome to BP, Ed

I'm in central MA (Milford). Along with all the great information and interaction on BP you should get involved in the local REI associations such as Black Diamond and Boston AREIA. Both are great networking opportunities.

Welcome Jason! I am from Milford, MA and am new to REI. Looking into my options similar to yours. Currently, I'm financially involved in a couple of flip deals which are both recently done and on the market. Once I have the funds back, I'll be looking to put more "skin in the game. You'll meet great people and learn a lot on BP. I know I have.

Happy New Year to you as well, Mike! I am a new investor in Milford MA and am considering deals in RI since it is relatively close to me. Love to stay in touch with you as things progress for both of us.

Welcome to BP Matthew! Have you checked out the Black Diamond meet ups? There is one in Waltham which, while not in Southeastern MA, would likely still be helpful. This group meets bi-monthly and always has great speakers. I live in Milford, MA and go to the meetings. I have yet to walk away bored!  :)

Marcus, at least you went in with an educated mind. Ending up a ploy is not such a let-down when you knew it might be. Like others said though, at least you found out.
