Thanks everyone.

@Robert Leonard There isn't really any value in the area and it needs a complete rehab. He said something about giving it to the habitat for humanity and writing it off, so I wanted to know if he could give it to me and do the same.

If a guy owns a house free and clear, and agrees to give it to me for free can he write it off on his taxes? If so, would he just use the tax assessed value? If not, is there any type of credit he could get for doing this?

@Justin Polston Surprisingly it is real brick. I also found out the neighborhood was built in the late 40's early 50's, so maybe it is a style or technique from that time?

Yes, here is a picture from the MLS. It's a terrible picture, but maybe someone can recognize it. I was curious as to what it is called, becuase there were a few of these houses in that neighborhood.

Has anyone come across a house that is made of brick, but the brick looks like vinyl siding from a distance? If so what is this called? I know they make siding that looks like brick, but it isn't that.

Hey Jason,

If you want to do something learn how to do it, and then just do it. If you know how to buy a house, calculate cash flow properly, and at least look for a tenant then you know most of what what you need to know. Don't let if "what if" stop you. It is a lot easier to think of solutions when you are actually faced with a problem.

Just think positive and don't be afraid to pull the trigger if an opportunity presents itself, because that's the only true way to learn.
